London Saatchi Gallery will hold an exhibition “From Selfieto Self-Expression”. The exhibition will include both self-portraits of world famous artists, including Van Gogh and Rembrandt, as well as celebrities, pictures taken by them own a smartphone. The exhibition will open on 31 March.
Visitors to the gallery will be able to see selfie American reality TV star Kim Kardashian, a group of actors with selfie ceremony “Oscar”, as well as the controversial joint photograph of politicians at the funeral of Nelson Mandela.
Gallery announced a competition Self, and place the works of the winners at the show, BBC reported. To do this, set the hashtag #SaatchiSelfie in social networks, on which the curators will select the brightest digital self-portraits.
Photographing himself on a mobile phone has become an incredibly popular hobby in social networks. In 2013, the “selfie” was the word of the year according to the Oxford dictionary. At the same time, a growing number of victims selfie – people die or get injured trying to make original pictures. Gallery Saatchi intends to draw public attention to this issue.
Saatchi Gallery is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00. The entrance is free.
